We must admit it is really starting to get cold and many of us are wondering how to prepare our horse and relax it even before getting on.
Here are some of our tips!
First of all, before getting on Zebulon, Caramel or Bijou, we must be sure that he is in perfect health. Have you ever had one of your friends - not initiated into the world of horseback riding - astonished at the time we could spend grooming our horse before getting in the saddle?
Indeed, grooming is an essential step before being able to ride.
Not only is it a privileged moment with our horse, but it is also a real transition phase between the stable and the work.
Allowing us to check if the horse has not injured itself in the stable or in the pasture and to wake up the muscles often sore from the previous day, we cannot overlook it. So we roll up our sleeves, get a little elbow grease, and get to work!
We have gathered here the essentials (for us) for successful grooming:
1 - Hoof pick Pénélope Store: Shop
2 - Polypropylene brush Borstiq Farm: Shop
3 - Arenga brush Borstiq Farm:Shop
4 - Glossy American curry comb:Shop
5 - Glossy soft brush: Shop
During this preparatory grooming, make sure to focus on the back and the withers with wide concentric circles, which will help warm up the back and prepare all the muscles for effort.
For stables equipped with a solarium, grooming under the lights for 15 minutes is also a real plus to gently relax the top line.
For others, the Back Warmer Royal Back & Track can be the perfect substitute. Thanks to its ceramic-impregnated textile, it helps prevent injuries, reduce muscle tension, improve range of motion, and increase circulation (Find it here).
Bertrand Couthouis, rider of our young horses, also uses the walker for training his mounts. Letting the horse walk for 15 minutes alone and free in its movements before starting the work is the best way to have a horse available, both mentally and physically.
So?! In the saddle! <3
