How to choose your work boots well?
Here is again a question that everyone must have asked themselves one day?
Between the search for support, tendon protection, comfort, and aesthetics, the choice can sometimes become complicated.
If we also add the sensitivity of each mount and the quality of the ground, the debate is then even more open.
Overview of protections and their specifics...
Practical and easy to put on, the boots for CSO protect our mounts on the inner and outer faces and the back part of the limb.
In CSO, the boots thus protect the tendons from any impact caused by the tip of the hind hoof upon landing an obstacle.
Open at the front, they allow the horse to be aware of the bar it touches and to correct itself during the following jumps.
That's the technical part, but in practice, what does it give?
Button or Velcro closures?
At Ohlala, after a round table discussion, we already said that there is a real difference between the different closures of boots.
Some prefer Velcro closures, which are more easily adjustable to different limb shapes; others more easily opt for button closures that wear less quickly over time due to the weather.
What materials?
Advantages of Leather: Flexibility, aesthetics, shock absorption
Advantages of Carbon: Lightness, strength, shock absorption
Advantages of Solimbra: Ease of maintenance, lightness
How to maintain them?
For leather, do not hesitate to perform at least two treatments with leather oil (note that this may darken the leather and thus change its appearance). Then treat after each session with glycerin soap, and do not hesitate to grease them every 7 days of use.
For the others, a machine wash at 30°C, without a dryer, can be sufficient maintenance.
To avoid damaging them, we generally recommend storing them in a washing bag or a properly closed pillowcase to prevent any risk of rubbing against the drum of the machine.
What about sheep?
So, sheep or no sheep?
In a true girls' group, we admit on our side a real crush for the models made of sheep, which we find particularly chic and elegant.
So we say a big yes to sheep! But maybe not for all seasons. For our part, we use a pair of classic boots at home, which are easier to maintain, and a pair of sheep boots for competitions.
And you, what type of gaiters will you fall for?
